I did my longest ride of the year so far today.. albeit it was my first ride of the year! Well, it is only January 3rd
I rode to Pitsford and picked up my cycling buddy Cyril along the way. He lives around the ‘half way there’ point. I approached the ride with trepidation as it was nearly 45 miles and double the length of any ride I have done since November !! Well it was the social season wasn’t it!! Not far in the scale of things I know but a big jump up.

Its quite an up and down ride but on quiet country roads mostly. The weather was grey but warmer, around 10 deg C, which is warmer than the 4, 5 & 6C’s that have been around lately and the wind has dropped a lot too. I felt surprisingly good given my lack of miles recently but I was just about done in by the time I finished. I tend not to take it easy when I ride. I ride pretty hard most of the time, up to my capabilities anyway and I don’t ‘save something for the end’. However shattered I feel and however slow I go towards the end I have always got home so far.
I wanted to test myself over the distance as I am contemplating my first Team MK ride for a very long time this Saturday. I think although the ride will probably be faster and a bit longer, I will have the benefit of riding within the shelter of the group so I should be OK. I’ll let you know !
I can vouch for the fact you do not take it easy during your rides!
You’re total mileage is now well ahead of mine. Drat! I’ll need to get back out there tonight.
