Tuesday 8th June

Another recovery day, went to the next town to top up with fuel and some shopping.  Found a ‘Super U’ supermarket that was also selling diesel at €1.10 ( £0.98 UK price) so we topped right up.  It had been around €1.25 – 1.28 on the autoroutes, still not too bad compared to UK prices.

In the afternoon decided I would try to set up the TV and see if we got any decent signals and programs.  I managed to find, among about 30 other channels that France 4 was showing live coverage of the Dauphine Libere cycle race so all in the world was good.   Well my world anyway !

Wednesday 9th June

Decided to venture into Poitiers today.  Drove in on the reassurance of the site owner we would have no problem parking.   That turned out not to be the case.  Eventually found somewhere and parked  but not very happy about it.  Started the walk into town and then I couldn’t remember if I had taken the Sat Nav off.  So walked back again and decided to move the car to a multi storey car park we had just walked by.  Having done that we walking into the town centre up on top of the hill.  Very busy, many shops, and mostly individual shops, not like the high streets in UK where they all look the same with the same shops.  Found some old buildings to look at and an old cathedral.

Poitiers Cathedral

Went in there but the organ was being tuned and there was a continuous whine of one note followed after a minute or so of that with another note.  Very uncomfortable on the ears so we soon left there.  Walked back through the town to the car and back ‘home’ again.

Had some lunch, a baguette and Roquefort cheese and settled down to a couple of hours of cycle racing at 3pm on the TV.  After that we drove back to the ‘Super U’ for some fresh fruit and some milk and then home for dinner, a couple of episodes of ‘The Office’ on the DVD and then bed again.
